Father’s Day Hot Tips

In late November I am always asked by Santa for some gift giving suggestions. Similarly, folks usually ask me just after figuring out gift giving for Mother’s Day what they can get their Dear Old Dad.

This is what I am telling folks this year. One thing is for sure: you won’t find a more eclectic list anywhere else!

TableTopics: Destination Anywhere

Dads like nothing more than ensuring there are no screens at the dinner table, or after. And Dads love talking and getting other folks talking. Most Dads like traveling, and so this collection of conversation starting cards is ideal. The first card I picked must have been selected by the NSA, as it is just about perfect: “If you could tour for one month with any band, which would it be?” That spun us into a fabulous banter about the merits of Springsteen, U2 or The Who. Neither The Clash nor The Beatles will be touring any longer. Van Morrison is too much of a curmudgeon.

Dad and Ray back in the day.

The Kinks: The Journey Part 1

If this seminal band decides on one last tour, I have my answer to the foregoing question. If not, I will continue to listen to this wonderful album. I have been spinning this curated collection on vinyl (leveraging a past gift for Daddy), making for a completely immersive experience. The Kinks have sold over 50 million records worldwide and have been streamed over a billion times; they have achieved five US Top 10 singles, nine US Top 40 albums, seventeen UK Top 20 singles and five UK Top 10 albums, with four albums certified Gold. The band’s main brain Ray Davies is widely recognized as one of the greatest British songwriters of all time. Here, he and his brother Dave along with founding member Mick Avory have assembled the first of a two part celebration of the band’s (gulp) 60th anniversary. All tracks have been lovingly remastered from the original audio sources. All 29 tracks here are about life on the road, whether down the block at the pub or searchingly across the globe.

SoundProtex by Sennheiser

Speaking of music, there’s nothing like live music. Back in the day, Mom agreed and let me go to my first concert (Led Zeppelin) but only if I wore earplugs. Thanks Mom! I’ve been adamant with my kids about wearing earplugs at concerts. Over the years, I’ve become familiar with all kinds of earplugs. When Sennheiser came out with their version, my ears…perked up. Sennheiser is clearly one of the aspirational and preeminent names in sound, and when they decide to do something, they certainly do it right. In this case, the SoundProtex hearing protection earplugs provide a virtual volume knob. In other words, the scientifically engineered design effectively lowers the decibels entering your ears, rather than mushing down portions of the audio spectrum. The patented membrane filter technology provides balanced and full frequency sound without the damaging effects otherwise inherent in loud environments. After a couple shows, I am hooked. Three sizes of eartips ensure an accurate fit, and with full washability, these babies will last long after my former single-use earplugs have been consigned to the dustbin.

1MD Nutrition

Dads also like when they know folks are looking out for them. What better way than to give him some TLC by way of some health supplements? Developed by medical doctors and formulated based on scientific reaearch and clinical studies, this array of supplements is impressive. With over a million clients (ranging from Olympic and professional athletes to celebrities), you can choose for your Dad from an impressive range of these supplements online. Whether cholesterol, eyesight, prostate or an all-around probiotics formulation, 1MD has you covered. I am enjoying the CardioFitMD® beverage mix.

Lomi

Dads are generally in charge of taking out the garbage. Most Dads these days are aware of how much garbage gets thrown away, and most Dads do their part by separating trash. But a growing number of Dads are going further and looking at ways to compost their waste. Along comes this handy gadget, which reduces waste and favorably answers several questions:

  • You hate taking out the trash – smelly garbage just plain stinks.
  • You want to save time on clean-up – simply toss scraps in your Lomi.
  • You want to eliminate waste – reduce your garbage by up to 80%

Over 140,000 households are now using Lomi. That’s 140 million pounds of food scraps diverted from landfills annually. We have set up our Lomi and we take the resulting compost out to our garden. Well, it is mostly Dad who does so, and this Dad is very happy to do so.

DermInfusions Lift + Repair Eye Mask

Is Dear Old Dad looking and feeling a little tired? Gift him a few of these treatments and he will feel young and spry. This 360 eye mask from Dr. Dennis Gross is made with 100% biodegradable lyocell fibers that fills the appearance of fine lines, deeply hydrates and repairs the skin barrier while depuffing the undereye area. The mask acts as an alternative to injectables, visibly improving age related volume loss and enhancing the results of aesthetic procedures. Active ingredients do the work: niacinamide, L-ascorbic acid and green tea. The latter is a potent natural antioxidant rich in the polyphenol EGCG that protects against free radicals and environmental aggressors. Who knew?
