Shows & Shoes Bond Moms and Their Girls Together

Mama Mia! Famous mothers and daughters were happy to talk about their relationships, as well as their tendency to raid each other’s closets. Borrowing/stealing each other’s shoes was also a popular subject to chat about with Sharon Osbourne and her daughter Kelly, Joan Rivers and her daughter Melissa, plus Paris Hilton and her mom Kathy.

The summer press day for the NBC-Universal Networks had all of them at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena to talk about their shows. But it was most interesting to hear what the moms had to say about their kids, and vice versa.

Paris Hilton was there with her soft spoken mother Kathy to talk about the upcoming The World According to Paris reality series on the Oxygen channel. A much feistier celebrity mom was Sharon Osbourne, who gushed about being part of America’s Got Talent sixth season.

Sharon was also gushing praise about her daughter Kelly Osbourne, who has been added to the panel of hosts on the Fashion Police, E! Entertainment’s style show with Joan Rivers. Joan was also there saying how happy she is to be working with her daughter Melissa Rivers, who is the co-executive producer of the Fashion Police.

Since her mom is such a fashion maven, Melissa was asked if she ever raided Joan’s closet. “You know, I was like any kid. I would take and take from the closet, the jackets, the jewelry, the bags, the shoes. My mom has always had greatest shoes. The problem is now, my feet are bigger, so she takes mine,” Melissa reveals.

So who has a better sense of fashion? Melissa explains, “I think we have a radically different sense of fashion. I think my mother is one of those people who looks good without even trying. I’m one of those people that tends to stick outfits that are sort of a uniform. That’s just because it’s easier for me.”

Kelly Osbourne happily describes that she and her mom “are like twins” when it comes to their favorite fashions. They always gravitate towards the same designs and accessories.

“I always steal my mom’s shoes. We’re the same size. She went to Paris this summer on tour with my dad, and came back with all these new shoes. Within seconds of opening her case when she got home, I got them. And she hasn’t gotten them back yet,” Kelly says.

Sharon doesn’t seem to mind, because she loves to praise everything about her daughter, including her style. Sharon says Kelly’s fashion sense says a lot about her confidence. And there seemed to be an awakening for Kelly after she participated on Dancing With the Stars.

Famous fashion maven Paris Hilton has designed jewelry, handbags, and shoes, plus a clothing line for the Kitson boutique. All have her mother’s approval, but Kathy Hilton really likes the variety of shoe styles that are offered by her daughter’s line. Great for all ages and lifestyles, from sporty to sophisticated.”

Chatting with Kathy, she really thinks her daughter has a great knack for creating trends, “and is a wonderful business woman. Everyone will be able to see that side of her on the new series.”

Kathy will be participating in her daughter’s upcoming reality show The World According to Paris, and says, “It’s very real, and we really did get into it. I opened my house for the first time, with Brooke, Paris, Nicky, and the whole family. You really do get to be a fly on the wall, and there’s nothing left out. There’s always surprises, drama, craziness and laughter.”

Although Kathy knows her daughter has had “bumps in the road,” she says that she is proud of Paris, “because she’s a good person. People will see that. She goes through ups and downs in relationships. She has a mother and a father who are very vocal with her, regardless of what anyone thinks. She’s very sensitive and thoughtful, not a diva. And I’ve been very impressed with her savvy putting on the producer’s hat.”

Mothers and daughters working together seem to work out well.
