Regency Fashion Luncheon & Big Brothers / Big Sisters

The Charity Luncheon and Fashion Show was held at the Regency Club in Westwood, featuring the fabulous designs of Ali Rahimi. Over $10,000 was raised that afternoon for the Los Angeles City College Foundation.

These funds will support HIV awareness, and provide scholarships to deserving students.

Rahimi’s custom made designs are worn on the red carpet by such A-list celebs as Eva Longoria, Angela Bassett and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, and his famous pink Jackie O suit was featured in Legally Blonde, worn by Academy Award winner, Reese Whiterspoon.

Patricia Ward Kelly, Gene Kelly’s stylish widow, was the narrator of the show, which featured holiday attire for the fashionable ladies in attendance. Among these were Beverly Cohen, owner of the Four Seasons Hotel, and Grace Robbins (widow of Harold Robbins).  Councilwoman Jan Perry was on hand to present a Certificate of Commendation to Rahimi, on behalf of the Foundation.  A most fashionable and rewarding afternoon for all.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters event at the Beverly Hilton got off with a big bang, when the USC’s Trojan Band marched into the Ballroom and began strutting their stuff.  Later, when Tom Bergeron (Dancing with Stars) arrived to emcee, we knew we are in for a smashing soiree. This gala recognizes inspiring individuals who act as positive role models for young people.  Ann Sweeney, President of the Disney Group received the Sherry Lansing award, which was presented by Lansing herself to her “girlfriend”.

Pros from Dancing with the Stars, Gorgeous Karina Smirnoff and Louis van Amstel, performed for the SRO audience, which included actress Pam Dawber, Ed Begley Jr., and Sarah Purcell, who was a former honoree of the organization.

Other honorees that evening included humanitarian Ron Tutor, and actor Fred Willard (Wall-E) and his lovely wife Mary.  Kudos to President Tiffany Smart and her hard working staff for a big blast of sunshine in these troubled times.

I was honored to be selected as emcee for the event.
