Independent School Alliance & The Passion of the Opera

Established in 1985, the Independent School Alliance is an organization of 54 private, independent schools that endeavor to increase their diversity. To date students have received nearly $70 million in financial aid from member schools.  This year, Brian & Mira Lee received the Visionary Award from actress, and Honest Company Founder, Jessica Alba, who thanked Brian Lee for guiding her through the formation of her own company. And who could do better than the gentleman who created Legal Zoom and Shoe Dazzle?

The evening’s emcee, Fox News Anchor, Jeff Michael,  introduced Executive Director Keishia Gu, who thanked their supporters, “ who open doors to opportunity.” Some of the schools who have been with the organization since their inception include a number of prominent west-side schools, including Brentwood, Buckley, Campbell Hall & the Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences.

Woody Allen & Placido Domingo?  A strange coupling indeed! You will have the opportunity to see the collaboration of these legends when the LA Opera opens their 2015-16 Season on Sept 12, for the revival of Woody’s opera production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.  We had the pleasure of attending the debut of this delightful comedic opera in 2008, and it is the perfect vehicle to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of our own L.A Opera.  Domingo will star in this production, as well as conduct Pagliacci, starring Marco Berti and Ana Maria Martinez.  Should be an evening to cherish.

Other highlights of this exciting new season include Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and Puccini’s classic Madame ButterflyLa Boheme.  To top it all off, two of the greatest voices of all time, Domingo & Renee Fleming will combine forces for a one-night only concert, conducted by James Conlon.  We are certain this season of audience favorites will be a sell –out;  so call 213-972-8001, or go to their website www.laopera.org.  As famed Tenor Andrea Bocelli states:  “To sing opera, one needs two things: the voice and the passion – and above all the passion.”
