Jazz great Steve Tyrell in concert at NoHo’s El Portal Theatre April 2, 2022

The El Portal Theatre presents Steve Tyrell In Concert

For lovers of great music, a special swinging concert puts jazz great Steve Tyrell in the spotlight at the historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 8 pm.

An ultra-cool Grammy winning vocalist, Tyrell is making his debut appearance on the Debbie Reynolds Mainstage at the El Portal Theatre. He will be showcasing his virtuosity with the Great American Songbook, as well as featuring selections from his recent release “Shades of Ray,” his tribute to Ray Charles.

Another highlight will be Tyrell’s toast to his late friend Debbie Reynolds on what would have been her 90th birthday. Reynolds glowingly stated in print, “I’m a big fan of Steve Tyrell,” after Tyrell did the music for her 2001 movie “These Old Broads” also starring Elizabeth Taylor, Shirley MacLaine and Joan Collins.

Tyrell’s work as a record producer had him collaborating with other legendary artists such as Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Linda Ronstadt, and Kristin Chenoweth.

As an award-winning vocalist, all nine of Tyrell’s American Standards albums have achieved Top 5 status on Billboard’s Jazz charts with his 2019 release, “A Song for You,” reaching # 1.

His breakthrough performance in “Father of the Bride” helped Tyrell re-popularize the classic pop standards for a modern-day audience. His hits, “The Way You Look Tonight,” “The Simple Life,” “Crush On You,” and “The Sunny Side of The Street,” are favorites that have been played at countless weddings, including Chelsea Clinton’s.

Tyrell is a true renaissance man in entertainment with five decades in the music business, achieving success as a singer, producer, musical supervisor, and popular radio host with The Steve Tyrell Show, Monday thru Friday on KJAZZ 88.1 in Los Angeles.

In 2005, after the passing of the legendary Bobby Short, Tyrell was asked to step in and revive New York’s golden age of cabaret at the Carlyle Hotel, and he’s headed back there. But audiences in the Los Angeles area will be able to experience Tyrell’s show up close and personal at the intimate El Portal as he wraps up his multi-city concert tour before his extended stay at Manhattan’s famous Café Carlyle.

Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 8 pm, will be a memorable musical evening with Steve Tyrell and his band on the Debbie Reynolds Mainstage at the historic El Portal Theatre, 5269 Lankershim Blvd. in the NOHO Arts District, North Hollywood, CA.
