Christmas concerts have a long and storied legacy. Britain was especially fertile ground over the centuries. I recall when living in London the plethora of holiday concerts, which helped ring in the season. Over here in the colonies many radio stations have developed the tradition, with the result being some pretty cool multi-artist offerings. The latest from 91X features an impressive lineup. Queens of the Stone Age are coming off a strong tour on the heels of their latest release ….Like Clockwork. They won’t be far from their home base in Palm Desert. College rockers Vampire Weekend can seem to do no wrong, having wheeled through Southern California several times in 2013. They were well received at Coachella and are currently the top of several playlists in our house.
Alt-J was also one of the darlings at Coachella, and I like “Fitzplesasure“ from Summer, their latest release of remixes. Also on the lineup for the late afternoon holiday show at Valley View Casino Center are Cage the Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, and The Silent Comedy. No telling if the Monkeys’ Alex Turner will join QOTSA onstage, but he did so on the latter’s recent album. There is no guarantee that the set lists will include any Christmas songs, but expect a range of Santa hats onstage and off.
