Machete

Machete

Finally, after more than two decades being in movies and television, the heavens looked down and gave Danny Trejo a vehicle to star in. We’ve all seen this Mexican demi-god in many shows and films but never knew his name. No one can forget the long, straight black hair that whips around his face when he fights, or his thick, long mustache that goes well with the huge stomach tattoo of a woman wearing a Mexican hat. Now, after watching other actors get their first-starring role and succeeding further, Trejo is now on that same train.

In the Robert Rodriguez film Machete, the two have collaborated on other films like Desperado (1995) and the From Dusk to Dawn trilogy, Trejo plays a bad ass who’s got skills using knives and, of course, a machete.  As the character, Machete, he is a true-to-life walking urban myth.  Once a Federale cop in Mexico, Machete morphs into this new super-hero after having fisticuffs with notorious drug lord Torrez (Steven Seagal). Left for dead, he rises like the phoenix, Machete rises and becomes an anti- hero for his peoples. Along the adventure he meets Luz (Michelle Rodriguez) the taco stand lady with a secret identity. Then there’s Santana (Jessica Alba) a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who’s out to get him. Academy Award winner Robert DeNiro plays corrupt Senator John McLaughlin , who pushes his strict anti-immigration laws, he hires Michael Benz (Jeff Fahey) to clean up his spotty image. Throw in people you never thought would be in cast in the same movie, Don Johnson, Cheech Marin and Lindsay Lohan and what you have is a creative, wild action hit that will be seen many times over. Once again, Rodriguez works his magic in bringing his film to life using colorful characters who are bigger than life. Trejo is now up there in the leading man category using his talent, his towering appearance and awesome tattoos.

The film hits theaters Thursday, September 3 throughout the US.
