At a precursor listen, I wondered why Bruce Springsteen had suddenly gone "emo".  This CD can be very easily likened to Sprinsteen's "Peel Sessions" CD but with different content; instead of songs about the working class and getting a fair shake, there are songs about love, heartache, and the inevitable angry American song.  But there is also heart in the music. There is conviction and passion in the presentation of the music.  The more you listen to the CD, the more you understand that this truly IS Michael McDermott.  Once you get through the (sad to say) generic background music and focus on the vocal content and presentation, it becomes a whole new beast.

Mark Johnston, a native Californian, has travelled the world with various circuses, sideshows, and arena rock tours. As a musical monkey he has delighted fans the world over. Upon his return, he has since founded the Atomsmashers Publishing Company, written 2 books in the company's Warm Horchata series, created a weekly comic strip based around LA's more "colorful" characters, written reviews, articles, and rantings under various pseudonyms; this has since culminated in Johnston being named Captain Fabulous by the Superhero Association of America.
