Teen Choice gets creative with Jonas Bros. Dares & Backpack Design Contest

Yes! The Jonas Brothers are hosting the Teen Choice Awards 2009, airing August 10 on FOX.

The super-hot siblings are also looking forward to performing during the 11th annual Teen celebration that puts the spotlight on the year’s hottest teen icons in film, television, music, sports and fashion. The Jonas boys seem to qualify in all categories.

They certainly have come a long way since I first met them when they first walked the Teen Choice red carpet back in August 2006. Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas were fresh young faces, who didn’t really have great haircuts or their signature style yet.

They were all a little nervous meeting the press down the red carpet. But their buddy Corbin Bleu, who had just hit it big with first High School Musical, helped introduce them to his media friends, including myself. The kids were funny, charming and had a twinkling hint of star quality.

Three years later, now the Jonas Brothers’ Teen Choice appearance is another highlight of a phenomenal year for them. They are currently in the middle of “The Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009,” which is taking the band across three continents, supporting their latest release “Lines, Vines and Trying Times.” Plus they have the hit Disney channel series JONAS.

The talented guys became a pop music phenomenon with the release of their platinum-selling albums “Jonas Brothers” and “A Little Bit Longer.” In 2008, they headlined two tours that earned the band a spot among the top-selling tours of the year. And they’ve been nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Artist category, as well as nominated for a Teen Choice award for Choice Summer Song for “Before the Storm,” which features their gal pal Miley Cyrus.

A special feature called “What would you dare the Jonas Brothers to do?” should be a highlight of this year’s Teen Choice show. The boys have accepted the challenge to complete dares submitted by fans. So there are lots of surprises in store.

Joining the Jonas boys, the Black Eyed Peas will perform. Among the presenters on the fun FOX special are Selena Gomez, Jesse McCartney, and Keke Palmer. Also scheduled to appear are Vanessa Hudgens, Kristen Bell, Jordana Brewster, Ashley Greene, Shawn Johnson, Daren Kagasoff, Kim Kardashian, Sean Kingston, Taylor Lautner, Jennette McCurdy and Emma Roberts.

All the coolest stars, best films and hottest TV shows of 2008-2009 will receive coveted Teen Choice Award Surfboards in categories such as Choice Breakout TV Show, Choice Reality/Variety Show, Choice Breakout Artist, Choice Male Hottie, Choice Female Athlete and Choice Hookup.

Backpacks at Office Depot

Backstage the most creative celebrities will be signing and coming up with imaginative designs for backpacks to be donated to the Teen Choice Charity.

The Office Depot and Sharpie have paired up for this year’s Teen Choice Awards, during which the stars will be stopping by the Backstage Creations lounge to autograph backpacks for charity. Plus the celebrities will be demonstrating their artistic flair by drawing fabulous designs for the treasured backpacks.

It’s a fun idea that will definitely show off the creativity of the famous folks. But “Project Backpack” isn’t just for celebrities. It’s a national contest that allows customers to submit images of their Sharpie-designed backpacks for the chance to win $10,000 in prizes, including the opportunity to have their backpack design reproduced and sold in Office Depot stores nationwide during the 2010 back-to-school season.

Since June 28, 2009, customers have been able to enter the contest by purchasing one of four Office Depot canvas backpacks ($14.99 each, available in blue, pink, olive and green khaki, that will include two free individual Sharpie markers of your choice) from a participating Office Depot store.

But no purchase is necessary for the contest, and you can download an official contest template from www.myprojectbackpack.com. All entries must be received by September 19, 2009, and a panel of judges will select the top ten finalists whose designs will be posted on www.myprojectbackpack.com, where the public will vote on the official winners.

Who will be more creative the stars or the fans? I can’t wait to see.
