Share Ladies Kick Up Their Heels & South Pacific Revisited

The fabulous, philanthropic ladies of SHARE did it again. Over 500 people attended their 57th Annual Boomtown event at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, and raised almost $1 million for various children’s charities

The theme this year was Dream Girls, and appropriately, Jennifer Holliday (who starred in the original production) performed admirably.  Actress Jamie Lee Curtis received their Shining Spirit Award for her work with children.

Jamie’s mother (Janet Leigh) was a long time member of the group, and often performed in their Boomtown shows.  Admittedly not a singer-dancer herself, Jamie Lee did warble a catchy tune with her sister, Kelly, and even did a simple two step to lend her support.

But you had to see the chorus line of cuties, kicking up their heels, including

September Sarno, a senior Vice president of UBS, who had to navigate her time between serving her clients and attending daily rehearsals for many months; and adorable Annie Gaybis who drove 2700 miles across the country, with her husband, actor John Byner, just to perform in the show.  Annie just finished performing the lead in Born Yesterday, but said her allegiance to Share and the cause was even more gratifying to her soul.

Kudos to President, Maxine Smith and the hard working Ladies who SHARE Happily and Reap Endlessly for at Risk Youth.

One of the many Western Clad Ladies we spotted at the SHARE event was Mitzi Gaynor, who starred as Nellie in the film version of South Pacific.  She was as thrilled as we were with the new Lincoln Center Production of Rogers & Hammersteins hit musical now at the Ahmanson Theatre.  Carmen Cusack, who stars in this production, had a hard act to follow – but did so with great élan.  We had the pleasure of attending the opening night and noticed that many former cast members, including France Nuyen, who portrayed Liat in the movie, were in the star-studded audience. You must catch Opera Star Rod Gilfry’s performance as the French planter, Emile de Becque.  When he sings, This Nearly Was Mine, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.  The show will continue to run until July 17th.  Don’t miss the Most Enchanted Evening you will ever experience.
