Robert Redford Award for Engaged Artists

The USC School of Theatre, one of the premiere theatre schools in the country, honored actor/director Robert Redford, with the newly established “Robert Redford Award for Engaged Artists” at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Although Redford has received some of the entertainment industry’s highest accolades, this is the first award named after the Santa Monica native.  This Academy Award winning legend is an ardent conservationist, philanthropist and environmentalist, and a man who is a staunch supporter of uncompromised creative expression.

Madeline Puzo, Dean of the USC School of Theatre stated “Robert Redford truly embodies all that an Engaged Artist represents.

The evening’s program opened with a special performance featuring School of Theatre young alumni Laura Darrell, Briga Heelan, Michael McLean and Donald Webber, Jr., who showed that this school certainly  turns out some fabulous performers.  Some of their distinguished alumni include Forest Whitaker, Kyra Sedgwick, and Swoosie Kurtz (to name a few).

Kudos go to Gala Chair, Richard Weinberg, who remarked about Redford “I am honored that this good friend of mine has displayed what it means to be a leader, dedicated to preservation and betterment of our world.”

Oscar Suite at Café La Boheme

Café La Boheme, world-renown for 5-star cuisine and stunning interior, opened its Tuscan country villa doors to host the party of the century!  Over 100 of Hollywood’s finest turned out to celebrate Valentine’s Day (even though it was pouring rain) and grab a “sneak peek” at what’s hot for the Oscar’s Red carpet.

The invitation only event, co-hosted by Jorg Gray and presented by CellCeuticals Skin Care Inc., indulged guests with an incredible array of fashion for him and her, and the finest in skin care, lingerie, jewelry and electronics.  In the spirit of giving back, guests brought shoes to donate to Shoes for Africa, including the Wardrobe Dept of Desperate Housewives, which will be shipped to South Africa in April.

Some of the VIP’s in attendance included Joe Mantegna, (Criminal Minds) William Shatner,  Amanda Righetti, (The Mentalist),  Maria Concita Alonzo and Sofia Milas, the gorgeous star of CSI Miami. We caught up with SAG President Ken Howard & his wife, Linda, who was a former stunt woman, and they were thrilled with the suitcase he received from Coleman Luggage; and Stefanie Powers (Hart to Hart) who proudly displayed the sexy stiletto shoes she was wearing by Menbur.

Other vendors included fitness gear by Forbes Riley Spin Gym, Amadika jewelry from Australia, and jaw-dropping Red Carpet gowns by BG Haute Couture and Scala Eveningwear, which no doubt we will all see on the red carpet at the Oscars.
