Marina Del Ray, CA
Souplantation; From the moment of entry, Souplantation has motion, excitement, and newness, along with spaciousness. It’s an amazing place with healthy tasty food. Each time you leave the booth or table to get another dessert, soup, coffee, or something you haven’t tasted yet, your table can be saved.
For some, the Souplantation” is akin to a “blast from the past.” It’s where diners represent a melting pot of polka-dots and all sections of life meet to get high on generous portions of non-complicated born-again nostalgic foods. Think of it as Americana in a mini-series of choices with classic foundations modernly expressed. It’s old and new worlds harmoniously blended into a cafeteria-café-diner type of restaurant, and a great place for families. The only difference between this and the old-fashioned cafeteria are the portions. Cafeteria’s dole the food out on plates; but at the Souplantation, you take as much as you want, and sometimes more than you can ever eat.
Sunday breakfast at Souplantation offers an array of tasty items, including fresh-made Belgian waffles, French toast topped with fruit, Potatoes O’Brien (country potatoes with peppers, onions and a pinch of spice), Zucchini Egg Frittata; Egg Scramble Focaccia (includes bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheese), Tom’s Country Gravy with biscuits, homemade oatmeal with brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins, fresh fruit and yogurt, made-from-scratch Cinnamon Chip Biscuits with a butter cream glaze and the ever-popular, “Make-Your-Own Breakfast Burritos”. Sunday breakfast options, in addition to the restaurant’s regular selections, are served every Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon at all of their locations.
Celebrating 30 years, they were founded in 1978 in San Diego and currently operate over 109 salad buffet-style restaurants across the western, southern, and eastern portions of the United States. The concept is built around freshly made, great-tasting, recipes with a salad bar full of seasonal vegetables and tossed salads prepared exhibition-style every 20 minutes. If it says chicken soup on the label, it will be full of chicken and noodles. The restaurants are open daily for lunch, dinner and special Sunday Breakfast featuring a variety of wholesome morning favorites in addition to regular selections. I personally enjoy all the various selections, and one can go back as many times to get more of any item on any buffet. It’s a great place for parties! And kids love this place.

PS They claim never to use a ready-mix from a box, carton or can; moreover, the breads are baked fresh throughout the day, served warm from the oven; and they only use real egg-whites, (not substitutes in their recipes).
