Maui provides a variety of dining experiences, whether at one of the huge resorts or just the opposite – the boutique sized Mala. Located in Lahaina, the restaurant looks unassuming from the street, but when you walk through the doors, you begin to savor the appeal.
We were soon gazing longingly between the menu and the Pacific inches away.
The logical start for our brunch was a mimosa, but of course one with an island accent.
From there we moved toward a family favorite, but again, not an ordinary bruschetta. The blend of textures and piquant flavor was amazing.
I have always drifted toward eggs Benedict, and so the Spinach Tomato Avocado Benedict lit up my brunch main course. The daughters worked on a Grape Tomato Shitake Mushroom Flatbread and shared a Mala Casear (comprised of red onion, grated egg, flaxseed croutons white anchovies with house made dressing).
My wife went with the Gado Gado Salad, an adventurous blend of Kula baby greens, tofu, Lundberg brown rice sugar snap peas, tomatoes, chickpeas and coconut peanut sauce. She and I could not resist an oyster shooter, and we all shared some delightful Manila clams.
When in Maui, be sure to seek out Mala. Book ahead, as it is understandably a local’s favorite.
