One of the brilliant things about living in (or visiting) SoCal is the plethora of coastal fairs, festivals and gatherings. Del Mar Is not only ranked by Time Magazine as one of the world’s top 5 beaches, but it plays host to many visitors during the year, with the summer bringing the county fair, the horseracing and Kaaboo as the newest event on the calendar.
But after all those events, the Del Mar Taste and Artisan Stroll will take place this year on October 4. Formerly dubbed the Taste and Art Stroll, this year’s title has been updated to accommodate an influx of local artisans and craft wares to the festival’s offerings. Presented by the City of Del Mar and the Del Mar Village Association, this family-fun event draws an estimated 10,000 visitors per year with its free art stroll with original artworks and artisan crafts, ticketed restaurant tastings, live music, beer and wine “sip stops” and a special dog stroll for pets.
Out of towners can plan a visit around this all-day event with special packages from Dream Del Mar with local hotels like the Foodie’s Delight Package from L’Auberge Del Mar, a Destination Hotel.
The event is free. The ticketed Taste and Artisan Stroll event, at just $25 per ticket including unlimited Tastes, or $35 per ticket including unlimited Tastes and Sip Stops, opens with the free Art Stroll along Camino Del Mar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this time guests are able to stroll leisurely through a world of paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, ceramics, and more, stopping to interact with the artists and artisans at each booth.
From 12 to 3 p.m., the event’s creative focus shifts to the culinary arts and talents of Del Mar’s top chefs. Tastings from more than 20 of Del Mar’s most highly regarded restaurants will be on offer. Throughout the day, guests will also enjoy the musical arts, as free live music stages host some of San Diego’s best jazz, folk, rock and cover bands. As guests stroll from stage-to-stage sampling different genres of music, they can also sample a variety of local libations at one of the event’s Sip Stops serving up tasters of wine and local craft beers.
And bring your canines. Special dog areas invite pups of all sizes to promenade through Del Mar Village, sampling unique dog tastes and specialty pet products and services.
