“The Talk” Ladies Talk About Glamorous Hollyrod Foundation Event
Holly Robinson Peete and all her gal-pals help a great cause
Holly Robinson Peete is not only an actress, author and co-host of the CBS chatshow The Talk, she is also a passionate philanthropist. Holly and her husband, retired NFL quarterback and author Rodney Peete founded the HollyRod Foundation in 1999 to support those living with Parkinson’s disease and Autism.
So the 13th Annual Design Care gala was held to raise funds for the HollyRod Foundation and it was a glamorous event that had her co-hosts from The Talk on hand to support her.
Sharon Osbourne was among the first to arrive to enjoy the evening at the posh Marciano Mansion in Beverly Hills. Sharon was seen cuddling a little pocket pooch as well as her rockstar husband Ozzy while they sat in the front row for the evening’s fabulous fashion show.
It was a very fashionable affair, with Leah Remini seen wearing an ultra-elegant black Halston gown. But the down-to-earth Leah admitted she’s much more comfortable in jeans.
Wearing a dazzling beaded Naeem Khan design, Holly talked about how she was thrilled to be celebrating the 13th year of Design Care, fashion show fund raiser. “It started as a backyard BBQ, and has grown into one of the summer’s anticipated events. It’s a thrill to be at the beautiful home of Marie and Armand Marciano.” Marciano is the co-founder of Guess?, and allowed everyone to come to his Beverly Hills estate.
It was fitting that such a spectacular place had such a spectacular event that featured a runway show by world renowned designer-to-the-stars Naeem Khan, previewing his Fall line.
Naeem, an Indian born American designer has been known for his intricately designed red carpet gowns worn by celebrities such as Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, and Carrie Underwood, to name a few. First Lady, Michelle Obama, was noted in the press in 2009 for wearing a “priceless” gold strapless gown to the First State Dinner, designed by Naeem Khan.
The evening also featured a performance by Grammy nominated artist Ledisi, who wowed the crowd. And awards were given out with a very touching moment coming when Lonnie Ali accepted the Matthew T. Robinson, Jr. Award of courage on behalf of her husband Muhammad Ali.
Rodney Jackson (R.J.) Peete, Holly and Rodney’s 13-year-old son, was the recipient of the HollyRod4Kids Champion Award for being an autism activist for his awareness work. R.J.’s mantra is “I may have autism but autism doesn’t have me.” The entire crowd cheered for him when R.J. took the stage with his family.
Among the famous folks on hand were the always lovely and fashionable actress Lisa Rinna and her husband Harry Hamlin, who looked like he just stepped out of the pages of GQ. The most beautiful lady, and always the nicest was Garcelle Beauvais, who praised her friend Holly for “her passion and dedication to spreading hope and positivity. She has made the world a better place, especially for children and their families struggling with Autism.”
Also on hand was Pauley Perrette (NCIS) who serves on the board of the L.A. Zoo with Holly, and embraces the cause of the humane treatment of animals. Actress Perrey Reeves (Entourage) was dazzling in a one-shoulder beaded cocktail dress. She reported that for the new season of Entourage she’ll be dating around, and behind the scenes she’ll be sharing lots of laughs.
Regina King, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Keri Lynn Pratt, and Alan Thicke with his wife Tanya were some of the stars enjoying the evening under the stars, along with entertainment news reporters Shaun Robinson and Nancy O’Dell.
Other notables supporting the Hollyrod Foundation were John Paul DeJoria with Eloise Broad, Sarah Culberson, and Holly’s proud mother, Dolores Robinson. Serving all the guests was Outback Steakhouse, a longtime sponsor of the Hollyrod cause and their goal of “Help and Hope.”
