The CW’s hit Vampire Diaries series has delighted its fans with many OMG moments. Even the trio of main stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev have expressed how thrilled they are with the twists and turns in the VD plots.

“Every time we’re handed a new script we’re like, ‘Do you believe this?’ We all love getting into that world and look forward to the surprises. It’s always crazy and fun,” reveals Nina.

So what kind of crazy fun is coming up when all new episodes start airing this Spring leading up to the season finale? We already know that the March 25 episode puts Damon (Somerhalder) in the spotlight as Mystic Falls most eligible bachelor, and a roomful of women go into a frenzy bidding for a date with him. You can bet some “necking” will be going on. But only the executive producer Kevin Williamson knows for sure what else the future holds.

During an interview, Williamson said the show has “taken on a life of its own,” and although he likes exploring the stories in the books, he’s also in favor of changing some things to provide more surprises. And the cast loves that.

“The books have always inspired us,” he said. “If you’re a fan and have read them, you can look at what we have used and what we haven’t. We’ve also taken and turned some of the stories in a different direction.”

He explained that they’ve gone into “this whole thing of this church and the tomb underground and these vampires that have been laying in wait for all these years,” with Stefan (Wesley) and Damon’s lost love, Katherine (Dobrev) among them.

That’s not in the book. However, Williamson said, “What is in the book is Katherine. And so the book has always inspired us, but now the show is off and running, and with a bunch of writers sitting in a room, we twist and turn everything.”

What about the relationship between Stefan and Damon? Are they growing closer or further apart?

Williamson said, “They are cut from the same cloth, and there’s a level of trust that has been lost between them, and that has destroyed almost every other aspect possible of their relationship. There’s a layer of betrayal, so as much as they want to trust each other, they can’t.”

Williamson reported that they are actually going to reveal why the trust was broken.

Leading up to the season finale, he said, “We’re going to show you why, and then we’re going to explore the flip-flop of the dynamic between the brothers. Because, for the first half of the season, it’s been very much about Stefan managing Damon and dealing with Damon.” That’s all going to change.

Without giving away the surprises, Williamson reported that “Stefan is going to go through something that, towards the end of the season, is going to put Damon in a situation where he suddenly has to finally step up and act like a big brother and take care of Stefan.”

Ian, Paul and Nina were excited to hear that, as they anticipated their scripts to find out what happens next.
