The late Dean Martin would have been proud of the Celebrity Roast which took place at the Beverly Hilton, honoring Pat Boone’s 80th Birthday. Some of the celebrity roasters and VIP’s in attendance included Larry King, Shirley Jones, Norm Crosby, Rich Little, Jon Voight and Game Show Legend Wink Martindale, who served as master of ceremonies.
The entire evening was dedicated to raising funds for awareness of Ryan’s Reach – The Ryan Corbin Foundation. Ryan is Pat & Shirley Boone’s first grandchild, and the foundation is named in his honor, as Ryan suffered a traumatic brain injury in 200l. Because Ryan is financially secure, all donations support individuals who have been devastated by this injury. Their goal is to establish a group home for their survivors.
We were particularly impressed by Louise Duart’s performance. This lady has the ability to imitate everyone from Joan Rivers to Bart Simpson! An unique treat was to hear Debby Boone, Pat’s award winning recording artist daughter, who performed a special birthday set for her Dad, along with a reunion song with all 4 daughters, and wife, Shirley.
Kudos to Fred & Suzie Wehba who chaired the dinner, and their Honorary Committee which included our dear friends, Dr. Susan Stafford, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr., Rosey Grier, and Pr Wiz, Ed Lozzi. This event truly did “Light up Our Lives”.
Award Winning film and TV actress/activist Loretta Devine, Cong. Janice Hahn, B.J. Freeman (UCLA School of Medicine), and Graciela Meiber (Global, Mattel, Inc) were honored as Women of Distinction, at the 6th Annual Pink Pump Affair to benefit Special Needs Network at the Montage Hotel. CBS Anchor Pat Harvey served as MC, and Areva Martin, hosted the star-studded event, and raised approximately $200,000 to send low-income children with disabilities to summer camp.
Some of the leading politicos, philanthropists and supporters attending this event included Attorney General Kamala Harris, Bobby Shriver, Wendy Greuel, designer Sue Wong, actors Sheryl Lee Ralph, Bai Ling, & John Savage, and Grammy winner, Omar Akram.
