Backstage At ’08 Teen Choice Awards
Stars & Gifts In Spotlight With Backstage Creations
At the super-hot Fox TV Teen Choice ’08 Awards, both American Idol Davids, Cook and Archuleta, took home awards thanks to their Goliath-like talent and super-cool personalities. Cook won the title of Choice Male Reality/Variety Star, and Archuleta, got the Choice Most Fanatic Fans trophy.
“I’m here because of my fans. I can’t tell you how much I love and appreciate them,” Archuleta gushed as he stepped out of his limo and was rushed along the star-studded blue carpet leading up to the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios Hollywood. “I am blessed with so much in my life.”
Most of the celebrities at the fun event were blessed with so much more than fan idolization, when they visited the “Mattel Celebrity Retreat.” The popular gift lounge was organized by Backstage Creations, and Sarah Barnard provided the comfortable eco-friendly décor.
In addition to Archuleta and Cook, American Idol stars seen at the Mattel Retreat were Jordin Sparks and Katharine McPhee, along with judge Randy Jackson.
Plus the other celebrities who were seen checking out the latest must-haves were the Jonas Brothers, the Cheetah Girls, the Clique Girlz, singer JoJo, Chad Michael Murray, Channing Tatum, Mitchel Musso, Drake Bell, Sophia Bush, Brenda Song, KayCee Stroh, LL Cool J and the winners of America’s Best Dance Crew: Season 1, The Jabbawockeez. Mattel and Girl Tech ® Studio provided a “Stylin’ Studio” makeover game to talent including Jordin Sparks, Sophia Bush, The Cheetah Girls, Danity Kane, and Lil’ Mama. Brenda Song squealed when she saw her face on the box of Scene-It Disney Channel edition. Brenda smiled and was excited to be part of the game.
Just in time for back to school, Texas Instruments premiered their new TI-Nspire graphing calculator. David Archuleta said the calculators will “help me with my math homework.” Star of the new ABC Family show The Secret Life of an American Teenager, Kenny Baumann (Ben) claimed, “I really liked algebra in school.” He and costar Daren Kagasoff checked out the TI-Nspire.
All calculators were signed by the celebrities and donated to The City of Hope to provide “inspiration” to children in hospitals. Celebrities who contributed included the Jonas Brothers, Chris Brown, Jordin Sparks, Step Up’s Adam Sevani and John Chu, LL Cool J, KayCee Stroh, Brenda Song, David Archuleta and Drake Bell, among many others.
The famous high-tech geeks also loved the latest Microsoft Hardware’s LifeCam VX-5000, a webcam with a unique bendable attachment base, in fab colors.
Southpole Clothing had the self-proclaimed “king of the hoodies” Mitchel Musso, of Hannah Montana fame, going wild over their trendy new hoodies. The talented young singer-actor also noticed that I was wearing a show-stopping Southpole ensemble as I worked the arrival carpet.
Singer Natasha Beddingfield was seen trying on a great looking Southpole Hound’s-tooth Vest. Brenda Song loved the white halter dress as she felt it showed off her tan and brings out her glow.
Other stars picking up the latest in Southpole fashions included David Cook, David Archuleta, Randy Jackson, Jordin Sparks and Stop Loss hunk Channing Tatum.
The dance battles didn’t just take place on stage; they also took place in the Mattel Celebrity Retreat! Ubisoft’s Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party game had High School Musical’s KayCee Stroh, Jordin Sparks and the Cheetah Girls getting very competitive with the game.
Other fans of the game included Chad Michael Murray, Channing Tatum, and other guys who really looked hot showing off their moves. They were also checking out the Neutrogena products for men.
Melamed accessories provided handcrafted designed leather belts which were spotted on the arrival carpet and at the show, worn by Fergie. Other fans of the line include the Cheetah Girls, Kiely Williams, Adrienne Bailon and Sabrina Bryan, the Dancing with the Stars alumni who showed off how the silver buttery-leather belt added pizzazz to her outfit.
When the celebrities got the nibbles backstage, they munched on the new Gripz and Mighty Tiny ® cookies and crackers. And they all played a game of “Gripz Toss” for points against the other stars. Chris Brown won, and he gets big points for doing it with style!
Whiteflash.com AWEAR, the conflict free diamond jewelry for conscious kids to heighten awareness of children impacted by illicit diamond trading, was loved by the Jonas Brothers who picked up a special pair of white-gold earring for their mom.
The featured charity at this year’s Teen Choice Awards was the City of Hope, a leading research hospital for the treatment of cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. To help raise funds for the City of Hope, celebrities came to the backstage retreat to autograph the hood of a Volkswagen Jetta TDI, the newest eco-friendly car.
The hood will be reattached to a vehicle and auctioned off, with proceeds donated to The City of Hope. All the stars were happy to support such a worthwhile organization, and they left many inspiring messages on the hood hanging up backstage.
What were all the stars talking about this year? More from the chatty celebrities on the carpet at the Teen Choice Awards– in next week’s column.
