Suburban Showgirl Dances Into Your Heart
She was poetry in motion: her pirouettes were electric; her kicks the highest; her splits effortless; her body absolutely lithe and perfect…this is Palmer Davis waltzing her way into your heart in her one-woman show Suburban Showgirl now appearing at the Theatre Unlimited.
It's quite rare for an audience to understand the mental, emotional, physical and psychological workings of a dancer. Here, for ninety minutes, Ms. Davis takes us into the studio where she is teaching and helps explain the inner machinations of her life: her growth and development, the high and low lights of her successes and disappointments; in short, the evolution of a dancer. and she does it with an understanding, appreciation and wit rarely seen on the stage.
For this reviewer, the moments she spent dancing were the highlight of the program. There is an abundant narrative of her moments spent teaching in the studio which her audience reacted to very favorably. and we will meet twenty-eight people along the way with narrative provided by Ms. Davis. a few less people; a few more dance numbers would have made the evening even better. But, hey, you're going to get quite a bit for your money.
If you love the dance, this may well be one of the best bargains in town. Tell Ms. Davis Joseph sent you; she likes me!
