Placido Domingo Awards & Oscar Party News

On Sunday, February 26th, The Beverly Hills Hotel’s Crystal Ballroom will again provide the venue for the arrival of approximately 150-200 film and TV Stars, who will attend The Night of 100 Stars, the most fabulous celebrity Awards party in town. Music agent & talent impresario Norby Walters again reprises his role as Producer and Dinner Chairman.

He follows in the footsteps of the late, great Swifty Lazar who formerly hosted his famed Academy Award party at the same hotel.  Norby’s sit-down dinner-viewing party includes past Oscar Winners and Nominees, who come to pay tribute to this year’s favorites.  Among those we spotted in the past were Richard Dreyfuss, Martin Landau, James Cromwell and Terry Moore (the former Mrs. Howard Hughes) who was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for Come Back Little Sheba in 1952.  And do you know that the feisty actress is still a beauty, and walked 26 miles in the recent L.A. Marathon?

Speaking of beauties, Norby guarantees the most gorgeous gaggle of gals will be in attendance.  In prior years we schmoozed with such lovelies as Jennie Garth, Traci Lords, Tia Carrere & Sharon Lawrence to name a few – not to mention the 75 Playboy Playmates and model friends who are invited guests.

So how can you receive an invite?  There are a limited number of tickets available to the general public at $1,000. Per seat. Last year, my tablemate was fierce Lucy Lawless (Xena – Warrior Princess & Spartacus).   Well worth the cost of admission, my friends.

Another event of great interest is the Placido Domingo Awards Dinner to be held February 19th at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, immediately following L.A.  Opera’s afternoon performance of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. This year, Chilean Author, Antonio Skameta, whose novel was adapted into composer Daniel Catan’s Opera, Il Postino, will be honored; as well as Nick and Betty Juarez, members of the Board of Advisors of the Hispanics for the Opera.

Placido will host the event, after starring in the matinee performance, but we have no doubt that he will be ready for the task.  This amazing artist, who has performed hundreds of times in his career, is the most gracious and genial host, and makes everyone feel at home.

Last year, among the many celeb guests were Cybil Sheppard and a slew of foreign dignitaries.  We are certain that this year’s guest list will be just as impressive.

Alicia Clark, Founder of the group, cordially invites you to attend.

If you are interested, please visit their website www.hispanicsforlaopera.org or call 213-972-3612.  You will help support the various educational and community programs of the organization, and enjoy a truly treasured evening.
