Magic, The Mayor & Mickey & Il Teatro Alla Moda

Since Magic Johnson was recently inducted into the Boys & Girls Club Alumni Hall of Fame, it was appropriate that he presented the inaugural Nestle/Magic Johnson Entrepreneurial Award to Shomari Patterson and Genesis Mena, members of the Boys & Girls Clubs at their annualGreat Futures Gala at the Mariott Hotel at L.A. Live.      Extra host Mario Lopez, Fitness Ambassador and Alumni Hall of Fame member, served as Master of Ceremonies,  and actress/singer Susan Egan performed a medley of Disney songs – also appropriately – as L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa presented the Champion of Youth Award to the Walt Disney Company.  As Roxanne Spillett, President of the Club stated “We are honored to celebrate the Walt Disney Company for their generosity, commitment and myriad contributions to our community.”   Disney has been an enduring friend to the youth of America.  In 2011, Disney helped raise more than $1.75 million dollars for the Club, and donate proceeds from the world premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at the Disneyland Resort.

At another event, we attended the U.S. Premiere of Il Teatro Alla Moda (Theatre in Fashion) at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.

This exhibit explores Italy’s famous couture designers, and their impact on the stages of opera, dance and theater.  Over 80 costumes, sketches and drawings from Armani, Fendi, Ferretti, Mission and Ungaro (to name a few)

will be on display in Beverly Hills to celebrate the transformation of the Italian Renaissance B.H. Post Office into a distinctive performing arts venue.

The exhibit have a limited 4-week run (Oct 14-Nov. 13).  While the Annenberg center is under construction, the exhibit will be on display at 253 North Beverly Drive, on the ground floor of the new MGM Place.  Hours are Wed-Friday, noon-7 p.m.  and Sat./Sunday, 11a.m. – 6 p.m.  Tickets are only $10.00 per person, and Wednesday is FREE for all.

Seen enjoying the fabulous fashions at the opening were the always fashionable Candy Spelling, actress Frances Fisher (Titanic), and star of the hit TV series, Castle, sexy  Stana Katic, who wore her own Valentino design for the occasion.
