Genesis Awards & Larry King Goes On and On

At Hyatt Regency yaHCentury Plaza Hotel, Kristin Davis (Sex & The City) was honored by the Humane Society of the US, and received their prestigious Wyler Award, at the 25th Anniversary Genesis Awards.  Looking pretty in her pink Oscar De La Renta frock, Kristin was recognized for her work raising awareness for orphaned elephants.

The legendary Betty White, who is as famous for her love of animals as     for her work on stage, TV and film, presented the TV Documentary Award to the National Geographic Channels, My Child is a Monkey.  Her old “boss” Ed Asner joined her, and the two seasoned pros shook up the house with their amusing commentary.

Other celebs in attendance included Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves and Valerie Bertinelli, who co-star with Betty on the hit V series,  Hot in Cleveland, and  Tippi Hedren (The Birds) who owns and operates Shambala an animal reserve in Acton California.

Other awards were presented to The Colbert Report for their satire on bullfighters; and Nightline, for their undercover investigation into dairy cow abuse at a factory farm.  Kudos to Beverly Kaskey, Director of the Hollywood office of the Human society who stated, “Tonight is a milestone for the Genesis Awards, but more important, a milestone for all animals and their place in the social and cultural fabric of our lives.

You can view this fabulous show on Animal Plant, Saturday, April 30th at 7:00 PM.

Larry King got the opportunity to meet his doppelganger at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, when he was honored by the Hollywood Arts Council.  The wax figure of King was shipped in special by Madame Tussauds from their Washington, D.C. facility, to make its L.A. debut.  Upon receiving his award, Larry stated, “I am so proud to be part of the Hollywood community, it is the best place I have ever lived.”

The irrepressible King definitely has not retired.  Currently he is on a stand up comedy tour from Penna. To Las Vegas, (where you can catch him on June 11th at the Mirage Hotel). He also just opened up the Brooklyn Water Bagel shop in Beverly Hills.  This guy will go on forever!

Others honored at the luncheon included Sunset Gower Studios, Celebration Theatre, and Starline Tours.  Thanks go to Oscar and Nyla Arslanian, President of the Hollywood Arts Council, who reported that over $50,000 was raised to support children’s art programs and at-risk children in our city.
