Lots of estrogen was floating around the Beverly Hills Hotel, when the Guild of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Los Angeles held their Accessories for Success Luncheon and Fashion Show.
Oscar winning actress Shirley MacLaine presented the Excellence in Mentoring Award to Laura Lizer, Founder of Lizer and Associates, a financial management firm for entertainment industry professionals. Lizer sits on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and is a Board Member and Treasurer of SHARE, and other charity organizations.
Another philanthropic lady (a personal friend of mine) Joni Eichenbaum Berry, received the Sterling Award from comedian Norm Crosby. Joni’s mom had a long battle with Alzheimer’s, and she established a health center for seniors in her honor. She is also active in SHARE, which raises funds for children’s charities. This week Joni is chairing the Professional Dancer’s Society event, which I will tell you about in my next column!
So – not to forget the distaff side – it was raining MEN – when Covenant House honored NFL Great Michael Strahan at the Spring Awards dinner at the Beverly Hilton. The annual event featured live and silent auctions, and musical entertainment by singer-songwriter legend Paul Anka, who serenaded his buddy, Mickey Segal, who was also honored for his contributions to provide homeless youth with much needed assistance.
Strahan, a Superbowl Champion and Fox NFL Sunday co-host, is very active in a number of philanthropic causes including the American Cancer Society, and the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Segal, who is a well regarded CPA, is also involved in numerous charitable causes. He has raised funds for the new Tower at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, and completed a $6 million capital campaign for CHC.
Covenant House is the largest privately funded agency in America, whose primary focus is to eradicate youth homelessness. With supporters like these, how can they miss?
