Heath Ledger Lives on in Australians in Film

Heath Ledger Lives On in Australians in Film

The late Heath Ledger was an ambassador and supporter of Australians in Film. A Scholarship has been established in his honor, to enable Australian actors to pursue their career in the U.S.  Jude Law, a great friend of Ledger, who appears in his last film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, was named as one of the Judges, along with casting director, John Papsidera (who cast Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight) and Susie Dobson, chair of the AIF.

A sold out benefit screening was held at the Ricardo Montablan theatre in Hollywood, featuring traditional Australian dishes, and thousands of dollars were raised to benefit the scholarship fund.

Although Jude Law was unable to attend, he said he was delighted to help keep Heath’s legacy alive. “ It is only fitting that this is scholarship be developed in his name.”  Law was one of three actors (Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp were the other two) who stepped in to complete Ledgers role after his untimely death.

Among the Aussies in attendance were Israeli actress, Noa Tishby, currently starring in Big Love, and her handsome hubby, Andrew Gunsberg, also known as Andrew G) Host of the reality series Australian Idol. The attractive couple, who recently wed in Israel, flew in 100 guests to attend their gala wedding.

Since so many Oscar winning actors have hailed from Australia, including Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman (to name a few), it will be exciting to see who wins the coveted Heath Ledger Scholarship!

And while on the subject of the Oscars, March 7th is the one night each year when Hollywood’s most prestigious movie industry awards show is televised to the world.  It is the night when constellations of stars come out of their Beverly Hills estates to support their peers and participate in the spectacle.

One of the most spectacular soirees is hosted by entrepreneur Norby Walters at the fabulous Beverly Hills Hotel – aptly titled, “The Night of 100  Stars”.  This is the 20th year that we have attended this extraordinary Oscar viewing party which includes a stellar mix of TV and movie actors, moguls and media, producers, paparazzi and assorted glitterati. We have wined and dined alongside such celebs as A-Listers Shirley Jones, Daniel Baldwin, James Cromwell, Laura Dern, Martin Landau, Kristy Swanson, Peter Bogdonovich and Frances Fisher to name a few. Last year, our tablemate was Lucy Lawless (Xena) who was unrecognizable without her black hair & bangs, but still a gorgeous Amazon.

There are a limited number of seats available for $1,000, which includes 5 star cuisines from the Beverly Hills Hotel, French and California fine wines, and after dinner cordials.  The party will be broadcast live on line, and this is your opportunity to booze and schmooze with the biggest stars in the biz. As Edward Lozzi the event’s public relations coordinator states, “It’s a great place to get glamorous and watch the Oscars with serious actors.
