Latin Stars Get Grammys and Goodies

Held at the Mandalay Bay Center in Las Vegas, the 2010 Latin Grammys event was filled with passionate performances and people.

A true highlight was seeing sexy singer Ricky Martin warmly embraced by the crowd. Now out of the closet, Ricky still looks like he’s “Living La Vida Loca,” the title of his first hit song. He is now a bestselling author of “Me,” or “Yo” as the Spanish version is called.

Martin presented the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year award. He gave the prestigious honor to opera legend Placido Domingo, the renown Spanish tenor was overwhelmed and said, “This fills me with happiness and emotion.” He was also filled with admiration of the women he saw at the awards. “My god, what women,” Domingo beamed.

The other major Latin stars who were on hand for the 11th edition of the Latin Grammys, included Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, and her husband Marc Anthony, who sang an emotional ballad.

The winners in the main categories were: Record of the Year, “Mientes (You Lie)” by the Mexican pop band Camila, which also won Song of the Year; Album of the Year, “A Son de Guerra” by Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra; and Best New Artist, Alex Cuba.

Best Female Pop Vocal Album, “Mi Plan” by Nelly Furtado; and Best Male Pop Vocal Album, “Paraiso Express” by Alejandro Sanz. In all there were 46 categories for the awards.

All of the winners and presenters enjoyed receiving the official Talent Gift Bag produced by Distinctive Assets for the tenth consecutive year. They also hosted the official backstage Talent Gift Lounge.
