Never Blue at Avalon

Never Blue at Avalon

Blue on Blue, with the fabulous executive chef Scott Garrett is one of the most charming places to dine.  It's in the Avalon Hotel where the service is marvelously attentive by young handsome men and beautiful women. You may dine in a large Cabana whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner when it's, decked out with loads of candles, a personal heater, and a spectacular marble table. It's a great place for any event, and although there's indoor seating as well as outdoor, I think dining in one of these super large cabana's is really sexy. They're made of mustard colored bricks, have their own lighting, and can fit in eight people comfortably. In addition, they circle the elegant lighted pool. What a great scene among the bamboo and palms. It's a class act.

Breakfast is served from 7:00am-11:30am; lunch 11:30am-3:00pm; dinner 6:00pm-11:00pm. And you can kick the blues during Happy Hour from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. That's when Chef Garrett offers delightful "tapas" priced at $15, for 3 or $6 each. Other goodies are Scallops, mini Chicken Pot Pie, and Paella! Cocktails at $8.

There's something special going on all the time, such as Monday night Burger Enthusiasts enjoying Bistro Burgers, in those new popular shapes and easy bites.

No-Corkage Wednesdays, when guests can enjoy their own bottles of wine without charge while sampling Chef Garretts fantastic seasonal menu. Also, the menu has been named as one of Food & Wine's "50 Best Hotel Restaurants." Right from the beginning I saw it as an ideal setting for intimate gatherings and special celebrations.

The Bar includes a menu of Scallop BLTs with Nueskes bacon, arugula & confit tomato; Asian Beef Cups with sesame dressing, iceberg & noodles; and Tuna and Mango Crudo with cilantro cream, wontons & ginger syrup. There are also Mushroom Risotto Balls with mascarpone, black trumpets & panko and a raw plate of assorted vegetables with sauce.

In addition, the bar is stocked with all premium liquors, offering an array of classic and innovative cocktails ($13-15) including blue on blue’s signature “Blue Avalon,” “The Elixir,” “Vesper,” and “Key Lime Pie” Martinis. They also offer a variety of classic cocktails, executed to perfection such as the blue on bleu martini, Manhattan, and Rob Roy, along with a long list of house blended Margarita’s and Coffee inspired cocktails ($12)

Their wine list features a comprehensive selection of wines-by-the-glass from the restaurant's special collection of bottles from boutique wineries and family vineyards around the globe.

On the evening that I dined at the restaurant, I chose a Cabana, and began with Bloody Mary scallops, followed with an entrée of Black Cod, served with sweet potato-vanilla mash, carrot jus, and ginger snap peas. For my favorite ending, it was peach cobbler in a cup, and how great it was. Other choices on that particular evening were pan-seared Salmon; Chesterfield Farms Pork; crispy chicken; chanterelle fettuccine; rack of lamb; duck breast; and grass fed NY strip (prices from$24-$34).

It's a changeable menu, and I remember seeing Poached Lobster on the last listings, along with Roasted Halibut with Buttermilk Grits; also Veal Loin. I believe the Chef generously prepares whatever you desire. Originally the cuisine was classified as New American cuisine.

I don't know when this review will be out, but until November 4, from 3:00-6:00pm, they are serving items priced at $8 or 3 for $20. It includes "Obamarita and "McCainade," along with Palini Martini's. Oh yes, I almost forgot about Biden's cup-o-joe made with Baileys and coffee.

Your snacks will be Caucus Kabobs, (grilled shrimp, pineapple & scallions) Conservative quesadilla's (beef, peppers, and chile) GOP (grilled onion & prosciutto flatbread) Filibuster, cheese steak, (shredded beef, sheese, caramelized onion) Electoral Shooters, (oysters, black pepper, and citrus) and the Green Party Platter, (garbanzo bean puree, pita, and olives).
