CELEBRITY STYLE AND SWAG
THE AMERICA STYLE WATCHERS & THE SWAG BAG AFTER THE EMMYS
Life is beautiful for America Ferrera. Not only did the 23-year-old Ugly Betty star win Best Actress in a Comedy at this year’s Emmy Awards, but also took top honors in the style department. Wearing a strapless royal blue body-hugging gown, with a touch of sparkle at the waist, she had all the fashion experts praising her glamorous look.
Chatting with her at the recent Teen Choice Awards, where she wore a form-fitting gray pinstripe dress, America said that she likes showing off her figure. Upcoming she’ll be seen back in the trendy jeans in the film sequel Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and noted that Real Women Have Curves wasn’t just the title of one of her movies, “It’s a fact of life.”
America got to take home a gold statuette after the Emmys, but what about the other talented nominees?
In fact, everybody came out a winner thanks to Distinctive Assets, who gave all the non-winning Emmy nominees in the eight major acting categories a consolation gift basket full of goodies.
It’s a tradition that Distinctive Assets, specialists in award shows gift presentations, started in 2003, acknowledging the non-winners. So they rolled out a fantastic gift bag that was full of fun and functional items for the trophy-challenged stars to enjoy. Some of the items in this year’s bag included Dove Haircare; Jamark Laboratories skincare for men; private training sessions at Huntley Drive Fitness; hair dryers from Deva Concepts; gift certificates from Laser Solutions; and books of poetry from Jimmyland, which the stars could enjoy during a trip to the Athenaeum Hotel, or on a GrandeLuxe Rail Journey, the ultimate in luxury travel.
Among the favorite fashion items were Kara Mia handbags; jeweled flip flops from Nomad Footwear; necklace and earrings from Kuukivi; iXoundWear, headwear of iPods; Stylized Pea baby clothes; and, believe it or not, Comic Book Sound Effect T-shirts from Atomic Madhouse. I’d love to see the stars of Heroes wearing those around town.
Elsewhere in Hollywood, Ugly Betty’s conniving assistant Michael Urie and American Idol’s gushing judge Paula Abdul were at the Sonya Dakar Salon for an Emmy swag fest that had them clamoring for CHI Hair Care products. “Paula Abdul sat around, hung out and played with the Million Dollar CHI flat iron. She told them how much she loves Biosilk therapy, and she was so excited about the CHI Rocket Hair Dryer and CHI Wet to Dry Iron that she had to take one of each with her,” an insider reported.
That Million Dollar CHI hairstyling iron was first unveiled at Oscar time, and has been making the rounds of major events such as the Teen Choice Awards. The one of a kind ceramic iron has more than 6,800, 3-point flawless non-conflict diamonds set in its 18K Gold casing. It eventually will be sold, with proceeds going to help the victims of conflict diamonds. That also impressed the stars.
