The enchanting Wallis Theatre in B.H. was transformed into an Italian Street Scene for the production of Scorsese – American Crime Requiem. Set in a cabaret setting, complete with a bartender, who transforms into Taxi Driver! They even had some fortunate guests seated at café tables on stage. In collaboration with the innovative theater company For the Record, this movie/musical collage, blends iconic scenes from Scorsese’s films, with music from the flicks – performed by Broadway caliber artists.
Among my favorite songs were Boulevard of Broken Dreams (Goodfellas), Love is Strange (Casino) & Sweet Dreams (The Departed). Gorgeous Carmen Cusak, portraying Ginger from Casino (Sharon Stone was in the movie) stood out warbling I’m Sorry. To keep in the Italian mood, Pia Toscano crooned Il Cieo in Una Stana from Goodfellas. A most entertaining evening indeed. I was most impressed by the lovely location, attractive décor & the quality of their members & guests. We also were treated to a lecture by Award Winning Costume Designer, Daniel Orlandi (Down With Love & The DA Vinci Code) who took us thru the magical world of motion picture costume design. You can have the opportunity to celebrate at the BHWC Centennial Ball on Nov 26th at the Four Seasons Hotel (along with owner, Beverly Cohen) who happens to be a member.
