As Tim Allen got ready to tee off at the Screen Actors Guild Foundation’s 5th annual Los Angeles Golf Classic, he said, “It will be a perfect day if we raise a couple of million. It doesn’t matter what I shoot, but a hole-in-one would make it a really perfect day.”
The Last Man Standing star didn’t get his ace in the hole, but Allen did have fun and helped a good cause, with the Golf Classic benefiting emergency assistance for SAG-AFTRA performers and their families. Allen and his former Home Improvement co-star Richard Karn (both golf nuts) happily co-hosted the event at an exclusive Golf Club in Burbank.
“The SAG Foundation’s L.A. Golf Classic is one of the premiere charity golf tournaments in the country. We all had a great time today, but more importantly we raised awareness and critical funds for the SAG Foundation’s programs. That’s what it’s really all about. It’s about actors helping actors,” Allen explained.
The charity tournament rallied a bunch of celebrities and sponsors to raise vital funds to help performers facing life-threatening illness and severe economic hardship. “We like to think of ourselves as a family, and sometimes when you hit hard times it’s best to go home to your family,” commented Pamela Reed, vice president SAG Foundation. She added, “The Screen Actors Guild Foundation likes to think of itself as home.”
Allen and Karn were joined by nearly 60 celebrity players and SAG Foundation supporters, including Joe Montegna, Anthony Anderson, Scott Bakula, Dave Annable, Gabriel Aubry, Kim Coates, Greg Ellis, Donald Faison, Brendan Fehr, Jay Ferguson, Peter Gallagher, Andy Garcia, Carmine Giovinazzo, Mark-Paul Gosselar, Vinnie Jones, David Leisure, Kate Linder, Breckin Meyer, Mark Moses, Kevin Nealon, Jeff Nordling, Timothy Omundson, Michael O’Neill, Sam Page, Michael Peña, Joe Pesci, Geoff Pierson, Kevin Rahm, Alfonso Ribeiro, Chris Rich, Michael Weatherly, Nick Searcy, Kevin Sorbo and Tom Welling, among many other very competitive celebrity golfers. Among the course sponsors True Links Wear Golf Shoes were very popular with the players.
The shotgun tournament concluded with a dinner and awards ceremony, where prizes and medals were presented to the top teams and players. The first place award went to the Corday Team, including celebrity players Alfonso Ribeiro (a great player with a two handicap) and Greg Ellis. The second place award went to the Omnicom Team, including celebrity player Carmine Giovinazzo. In third place was the Fairway & Greene Team, which included celebrity player Joe Pesci.
Other big winners included celebrity players Anthony Anderson, Tom Welling, Michael Pena and Greg Itzin, for special categories such as the putting contest, closest to the pin, and longest drive. Anthony Anderson bragged, “I do have a long drive.” #
