Ben Vereen to be Lauded by Coalition for At Risk Youth

He’s an actor, dancer, and singer who have appeared in numerous Broadway shows.  For more than 40 years, this versatile performer has enthralled audiences around the world, and is probably best known for his roles in the Broadway musicals Pippin and Jesus Christ Superstar, and the TV series, Roots. However, Vereen has also suffered serious setbacks, including an almost fatal auto accident, where he had major head and internal injuries, and the discovery of his having type 2 diabetes.

However, nothing keeps this dynamo down, and he will be honored at the Coalition for At-Risk Youth on December 3rd at the Beverly Hilton.

This all-volunteer organization, founded by Dr. Pearl E. Grimes has raised over $1 million in less than six years, to help thousands of foster kids.  They sponsor hundreds of them at their unique sleep-away camp in Big Bear, Ca. where they are coached to develop self-esteem and build character.

Respected radio personality, Rick Dees will serve as Master of Ceremonies, for a show featuring Sheila E. and the Escovedo Family. Jennifer Lewis (Cars 2) helms the live auction.

Over 500 of Southern California’s most influential and social conscious supporters will attend, including Martin Lawrence, Magic Johnson, Jerry West and Todd Bridges. Others honored at this fundraiser include renowned attorney & children’s rights advocate, Debra Opri and Dr. Robert Mendez, co-founder of the National Institute on Transplantation.
