Sunset Sessions – Back in North County

Once of the cooler events in town is the long-running Sunset Sessions. Featuring veterans and newcomers to the music biz, it gives folks the unparalleled opportunity to rub shoulders with folks who have been there and done it.  There are a series of casual yet informative industry events, and a great line-up of shows at the Belly Up open to the public.

In its 17 years, the Sunset Sessions have helped launch the careers of countless artists, including The Black Keys, FUN., and Jason Mraz, and have even hosted legends such as Stevie Nicks, Billy Corgan, Serj Tankian and Carlos Santana.  Organized by music business veteran Michele Clark, the Sunset Sessions conventions are a key opportunity for musicians and industry power players, including record labels, radio station programmers, music supervisors, managers, agents and artists to get together and network.

sunset-sessionsThe February version I attended featured over 50 artists including Ziggy Marley, John Butler Trio, The Hold Steady, Needtobreathe, The Parlotones, Kodaline Jeremy Messersmith, Louise Goffin, and Eddie Money. Money had a heartfelt plea for returning veterans, and I was impressed. The post Sunset Sessions event party even made its way to 3x alumni Jason Mraz’s house for a Sunday Morning jam session of Jason’s new music.
